Ever been in a space where Life seems extremely pointless, and directionless??? I guess all of us have been there in sometime or the other. Being in this new college, such in my experience. I like teaching, I do. So I must be technically happy with a full time job that gives me a steady paycheque at the month end right?? The reluctance to leave my sweet looking bed in the mornings and my excitement at the mention of every holiday says something else. Is it just plain laziness? I don't think its just that.

The amount of restrictions put on the students, the amount of spoon feeding teachers do, gives me the feeling of a bird with broken wings. What is the point of the education if we cannot make our students think for themselves, empower them, make them independent. It is a race to complete the syllabus and then you have these 'study guides'. I always hated them as a child and hate them even more now when students said they would study from the guides if I do not give notes. I understand the freedom of speech given need not be exercised always but when we know we are in a country that allows us the liberty to do so, then why not? Enquire, investigate, question, research, express, debate all these must happen in a degree college. The future of our nation cannot be given in hands of rats... we need lions who can bring about tidal wave of change and peace..............

Hi Sharika,

I like your blog :) And I'd love to hear some more teaching thoughts/stories from the last couple of years. On what it is like to teach a second language to second language learners, or how American students follow different norms than students in India, the random things you've learned . . . etc.!
